As our society continues to age with baby boomers, all being over the age of 60, counselors may find that they are working more with diseases primarily affecting the older population. These neurocognitive disorders will be diagnosed by a neurologist or neuropsychologist; however, the counselor may be asked to provide treatment and services to the client and the client’s family. Counselors will need to know how different types of treatment will support clients with these disorders.
What are some of the treatment modalities and support used with neurocognitive disorders? What are some of the brain changes that happen in older adulthood? What are some of the indicators that brain changes are outside of normal range and indicating a neurocognitive disorder?
