In the past few weeks we’ve been discussing government policies, with a focus on those that generate or exacerbate inequalities. Of course, the government can also be used as a powerful tool to reduce inequalities. Pick a specific example from the policies we discussed in this section (e.g., housing, poverty, criminal justice, education, etc.), and, in about 600 words, explore how government actions have generated or made worse existing inequalities.
